Gym memberships aren’t exactly pocket change; they often cost hundreds of dollars. Not all of us can afford the high-end clubs with their exorbitant prices. Join me as I explore three different gyms and determine which one reigns supreme in terms of overall value, affordability, and luxury.

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of hitting the gym by paying an entry fee of $21.85. Prices vary depending on membership status. Stepping into Energyone felt like a throwback to my days at Fitness First, minus the hefty price tag.
The check-in process was smooth. As a first-timer, all I had to do was sign an orientation form, pay my entry fee, and receive a wristband with a locker key tag and towel. The locker room was top-notch, resembling a 5-star hotel restroom. After stowing my belongings, I headed to the workout area to kickstart my strength training session.
After a brief survey, I located the machines and dumbbell area. Opting to focus on my arms, I hit the machinery equipment for tricep extensions and lat pull-downs. The gym was bustling, so I had to make do with just these two machines. Armed with a 5kg weight (the lightest available), I pushed through my sets, occasionally checking my form through recorded videos.
After repeating sets on various equipment and a stint in the weights area, I wrapped up my workout with a 15-minute session on the stairmaster and a cooldown routine courtesy of Maddy on YouTube. Dealing with some joint soreness, I aimed to strike a balance between exercise and rest.
Making the most of my entry, I indulged in a shower. The facilities were convenient, with designated spaces for toiletries and towels. Overall, it was a pleasant workout experience, albeit a bit pricey for non-members.
Membership price : per entry $12.95 for guest & $8.65 for members, 9 months - $360
2. Anytime Fitness Choa Chu Kang

As a non-member, I took advantage of Anytime Fitness's one-week trial. Although I didn't utilize the full week, a single day was enough to convince me that Anytime Fitness might not be my go-to gym. I visited the Choa Chu Kang outlet in mid-November to try out my pass.
The check-in process was smooth, but I was disappointed to find that towels weren't provided. I decided to focus on leg workouts, but some equipment was unfamiliar, requiring me to scan QR codes for instructional videos. The seated leg press seats weren't as comfortable as those at Energyone or Fitness First, which was a drawback.
Storing personal belongings required a padlock, a surprise for a first-time Anytime Fitness visitor. The lack of dedicated toilets or shower areas meant resorting to public facilities, a downside that detracted from the overall experience.
Equipment-wise, Anytime Fitness was decent but lacked the variety I was accustomed to at Fitness First. Despite staff suggestions for alternative exercises, the experience felt somewhat lacking without the amenities and convenience I'd come to expect.
Membership price : $98-118/month
3. Fitness First

During my time as a Fitness First member, I opted for their platinum membership, granting access to all clubs. I frequented the Junction 10 and Westgate outlets, with Westgate being a favorite for its stunning pool. Having been a member since 2018, Fitness First has been a cornerstone of my fitness journey.
Fitness First's warm hospitality and extensive amenities set it apart. They provide towels, workout attire in various sizes, and a well-stocked array of machinery equipment. The locker rooms resemble those of a 5-star resort, complete with Dyson/GHD hair dryers and complimentary toiletries.
For me, Fitness First embodies the ideal gym experience, offering a wide range of amenities and a welcoming atmosphere. Although I've transitioned to home workouts and public pool swimming, Fitness First remains my benchmark for excellence in gym facilities.
In a nutshell, each gym offers its own unique advantages. Anytime Fitness is a budget-friendly option for those seeking 24/7 access, while Fitness First provides a luxurious experience akin to a hotel stay. However, Energyone at Safra Choa Chu Kang emerges as the overall winner, balancing affordability with a comprehensive range of equipment and superb locker room facilities.
Membership price : $200/month
So, in the battle of the big three, Energyone takes the crown. But the ultimate winner depends on your individual preferences and priorities.
